Saifuddin: Foodbank Malaysia programme a long-term initiative

PUTRAJAYA: The Foodbank Malaysia programme is not a one-off initiative, but will continue for the long-term, especially at public universities.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said his ministry will mobilise the programme well into the future in an effort to impact the lives of target groups, such as public university students.

Yesterday, Saifuddin announced that his ministry had decided to extend the Foodbank Malaysia programme at public universities following a report that many students there have barely enough money to eat.

“The news report (was the catalyst for our decision to) extend the Foodbank Malaysia programme to reach the campuses of public universities (from now onwards),” he said at the ministry’s monthly assembly here, today.

Saifuddin also said that the programme can be run and extended without difficulty as it is well-planned and supported, in terms of logistics, sponsors, volunteers and identified recipients.-Bernama
