Perak MB: I am not going to step down

IPOH: Breaking his silence today, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said he was not going to step down.

But, he acknowledged that changes had to be made for the administration to run smoothly and avoid controversies.

“I think maybe we can improve in terms of teamwork,” he told a press conference after attending a townhall on Maqasid Syariah Based Governance at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, here.

“Some state executive councillors seem to forget that I am the menteri besar, and, sometimes, they come out with statements without referring to me.

“I am not saying that the statements are wrong, but people can see that we are not working as a strong team.

“It is wrong and it shows that we are not smart.”

Ahmad Faizal said they should inform him or say something during state executive council meetings, before making statements.

He added that he was not going to throw in the towel as he had been sworn in as the menteri besar and would shoulder his responsibilities.

“When I took the oath as menteri besar, I swore with my heart and take it very seriously.

“I am not confirming something is happening, and if it happens, it happens, I am still okay.

“What is important is we don’t want to fight.

“We need to strengthen the state government for the sake of the people’s wellbeing.”

Asked whether there would be a reshuffle in the state administration, Ahmad Faizal said there were no plans to do so, but state executive councillors had to improve themselves.

"We are all human and we know that we are not perfect, but we need to improve ourselves,” he said, adding that there could be a portfolio reshuffle to strengthen the state administration.

Asked to comment on the status of PKR state executive councillors, Ahmad Faizal said Perak PKR had been told to go through the proper channels if they wanted to change their state executive councillors.

“The matter should be brought up for discussion in the PKR top leadership.

“If the party wants to change its excos, they can suggest through its national leadership.”
