Watch: Shock as Perodua Myvi driver zooms down KL's NPE for several kilometres

KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of a Perodua Myvi caused a commotion early today when he or she steered their vehicle against traffic flow for several kilometres down a major highway here.

The 4.30am incident, which fortunately occurred amidst very light traffic, saw the vehicle tearing down the left lane of the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and zooming past landmarks such as Dataran Maybank in Bangsar Utama and the Pantai Dalam toll plaza.

It is unclear why the unidentified driver, who appeared to be handling the Myvi in a surprisingly steady manner, pulled the dangerous stunt.

Much of the incident was captured on video by the stunned pillion rider of a motorcycle moving in the right lane on the opposite side of the divided highway.

The 3-minute-and-50-second mobile phone footage – which has gone viral on social media – shows the Myvi dashing down the highway as the motorcyclist doggedly struggles to keep up with it.

The pillion rider can be heard narrating the event as it unfolds and reading out the Myvi’s registration number plate. At one point, the motorcycle catches up with the errant car, and as it rides adjacent to the Myvi, one of the two motorcycle riders is heard shouting at the rider in an attempt to catch their attention – to no avail.

Shortly after, the Myvi breaks away from the motorcycle and sprints ahead as the video comes to an end.

The fate of the Myvi driver is not known, but no police report has been lodged on the incident as of this afternoon.

“We have received no report on the incident,” Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya told Harian Metro.
