'Wajah-wajah' - A showcase of 200 caricatures by local artists [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 200 caricature paintings by 33 cartoonists from all over the country, are currently being showcased at the ‘Wajah-wajah’ exhibition at Malaysia Cartoon and Comic House (MCCH) here.

The one-month exhibition (April 1-30), held in conjunction with ‘Bulan Kartunis Malaysia’ (Malaysia Cartoonist month) April 2019, was officiated by veteran cartoonist Zainal Buang Hussein, also known as the Father of Malaysian caricature.

According to Zainal, the exhibition was meant for cartoonists to showcase their talent in caricature art, as well as reveal their latest work to the public.

“I hope through this type of event, we could create more awareness on local caricature art talent, especially the younger generation of artists,” he added.

Cartoonist Olyhairy Osman, 36, said the exhibition was a good platform for artists to showcase their work to the public.

“I have been drawing all my life. It was a hobby that became a professional career,” he added.

Olyhairy said apart from drawing manually (using paint brush), he also used his iPad Pro tablet for digital drawing.

"It's more practical and efficient for online purchasing/order," he added.

Olyhairy said he has a booth at Bukit Bendera from Fridays to Sundays, which offers caricature drawings for tourists.

"On other days, I will take orders online,” he added.

Apart from the 'Wajah-wajah’ exhibition, other activities in the The Malaysia Cartoonist month include the Tokoh Kartunis 2019 award ceremony, Pahang Cartoonist Day, cartoon exhibition and a t-shirt printing worshop.
