I will no longer be in PAC, says Kiandee

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee is not looking to hold any position in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), after a motion to replace him with Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad is passed by Dewan Rakyat.

Kiandee said the appointment of PAC members would be made via the Parliament Select Committee, which was headed by Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.

“I will not be part of PAC and by replacing the chairman, it means that I will be out of the committee,” he told reporters in Parliament today.

“It’s very clear. I cannot be a PAC member. There is no need for it.”

According to item number nine of today’s Order Paper, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to table a motion to replace Kiandee with Noraini, as new PAC chairman.

Kiandee, who is Beluran member of parliament, said the motion to replace him as PAC chairman was expected to be tabled by next week.

He said he had chaired 30 meetings during his tenure as PAC head.

Noraini, who is also Umno Wanita chief, was appointed a PAC member last August, replacing the former PAC chief Hasan Arifin.

The three-term Parit Sulong MP was named by Barisan Nasional as the new PAC chairperson after Kiandee, who was from Sabah Umno, defected to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia on March 15.

In its election manifesto, Pakatan Harapan had pledged to pick an opposition lawmaker to head the committee.
