18-month-old baby dies under babysitter's care

KUALA KANGSAR: An 18-month-old baby died after allegedly falling while climbing a window at his babysitter's house in Taman Kuala Kangsar here yesterday (April 19).

Muhammad Aidil Amsyar Muhammad Hafizuddin was rushed to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital's emergency unit but was pronounced dead at 9.40am.

Kuala Kangsar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razali Ibrahim said the victim's mother, Noorsyaqinas Rosni, 25, sent her son to the babysitter's home at 7am before going to work at the Kuala Kangsar Land and District Office.

"The victim's mother claimed her son was in good health. She also said she was informed of the incident by the babysitter's mother at 9am.

"At the hospital, the babysitter said her son fell while climbing a window," he said when contacted today.

The babysitter had also claimed that the baby was still conscious after the fall, Razali added.

"The doctor who treated the baby performed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) from 8.40am to 9.40am, but to no avail."

The victim's mother later lodged a police report and initial investigations showed that the baby had been under the babysitter's care since early this month, said Razali.

"During the time of the incident, only the 24-year-old babysitter, her one-year-old son and Aidil were at home."

He said police had no reason to suspect foul play.

"According to the autopsy report, the victim died of injuries to his internal organs."

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence.
