Missing Malaysian trekker spotted by rescuers

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian man who was reportedly stranded in Nepal near the summit of Mount Annapurna on Wednesday has been spotted by rescuers today.

This was confirmed by Seven Summit Treks Pvt Ltd which posted an update on the missing trekker, anaesthesiologist Dr Wui Kin Chin, on Facebook.

It is reported that the rescue team consisting of four Nepali sherpas (rescuers) was dispatched to the location where Dr Wui was spotted.

“Dawa Sherpa co-ordinating with the rescue team, four Sherpas (including NIMS) have been dropped to C3 (6500metre), team will continue to the point where Wui Kin got stuck!" the post read.

It also posted that the rescue mission is extreme however the rescuers are trying to retrieve Wui.

“It’s extreme but we are trying, the team of rescue, Nims dai, Mingma Gyabu, Gesman Tamang and Gelje Sherpa, heading from C3-6500metre towards the place where Malaysian climber Wui Kin has been located.

“Rescue mission have been started and team is dispatched. Let’s hope that we can bring him down alive,” it said.

It was reported earlier that the 48-year-old was stranded near the summit of Mount Annapurna after the climber was separated from other trekkers while descending the treacherous peak.

It was believed that Dr Wui summited the 8,100-metre (26,500-feet) Himalayan mountain on Tuesday with at least 31 others but failed to return to the nearest camp, a kilometre below the peak.

Meanwhile, Wisma Putra in a statement released today confirmed that the search and rescue team has found Wui.

“The rescue team is in the process of bringing down the victim from the mountain to seek further treatment.

“The ministry would like to thank the Government of Nepal, especially the search and rescue team in the search and rescue efforts of the victim,” it said.
