Redevelopment plan to change perception of PPR flats

KUALA LUMPUR: The redevelopment programme involving flats that are 30-years-old and above under the National Housing Policy 2018-2025 is one of the initiatives introduced by the government to change the perception that properties under the People’s Housing Project are of inferior quality.

Gombak member of parliament Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said the redevelopment policy would increase the value of the properties and improve the well-being of residents.

“Some of the flats only have two rooms per unit since they were built 30 years ago.

“These flats will usually experience problems with wiring and sewerage systems.

“If the flats can be redeveloped, it will improve the value of the property and guarantee a better future for the residents,” Azmin said after visiting Block F at Taman Keramat Permai in Ampang Jaya, near here, on Monday.

He was accompanied by Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin and Selangor Housing and Urban Living Committee chairman Haniza Mohd Talha.

Azmin said redevelopment could be carried out after the government had obtained the consent of 90 per cent of the owners.

“I hope owners of units at flats (which are 30 years or older) would discuss with the Housing and Local Government Ministry or their respective local councils on carrying out redevelopment programmes,” he said.

It was reported that 118 people from 37 families were evacuated following the discovery of cracks at Block F on Friday.

There are 40 units at the affected block. Thirty-seven were occupied.

The families were initially evacuated to SMK Taman Permata before they were relocated to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council Hall here.

Only 86 people from 25 families are seeking shelter at the hall. The rest are staying with their relatives pending safety checks on the building.

There are a total of 12 blocks at Taman Keramat Permai.
