Woman arrested as alleged mastermind behind PPR bribes

KOTA KINABALU: A woman in her 40s has been arrested for being involved in a syndicate related to the People's Housing Project scheme in Sandakan.

According to a source, the woman had asked for bribes and deceived the public regarding offers made on the houses.

According to sources, the woman was arrested following the earlier arrests of two men in their 20s and 40s.

The two men, who are father and son, were also arrested by Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday.

The woman is believed to be the main mastermind of this syndicate where the deceived applicant has paid up to RM10,000 since last year.

"This syndicate has asked for bribe money either in cash or transfer to a bank account and promised people-friendly houses including incentives such as household appliances to the interested public.

"This female suspect was detained at the Sandakan MACC branch office when she came to assist in the investigation of the case around 10.35 last night," he said.

Meanwhile, Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest of this third suspect and the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) MACC 2009.

He also reminded the public who have been victims of syndicates like this to come forward to help the investigation.
