KUALA TERENGGANU: Men in white pagoda t-shirts and "kain pelikat", women in "baju Kedah" and "Kain batik" selling various dishes are among the pre-Merdeka feel one can experience at Pantai Batu Buruk's Car Food Sahur bazaar.
Already in its fifth edition, a representative of the organiser, Che Ku Basir Che Ku Maidin said they wanted something unique which was how the concept of invoking a sense of nostalgia came about.
The shops are decorated accordingly and mats are provided for visitors to sit down and enjoy their sahur (pre-dawn) meal.
"For us here, it is more about highlighting creative traders with our displays and attire set to the theme of traditional Malay, this is surely different compared to what you get elsewhere," he said when met by NSTP, here, this weekend.
Not only serving traditional local food, the relaxed sahur affair is also involved in charity work and so far managed to attract some 1,000 visitors every night.
To make it more lively, visitors are also entertained by religious songs performed by KT Busker.
"The increase in the number of visitors could be due to the fact that we have 30 vendors this time around, compared to 25 last year.
"We have also extended our operating hours by one hour, making it from midnight to 5am this year, to ensure more people will be able to enjoy the food we have here for sahur with their friends and family.
"However, so far, it can be said that we run out of food by 3am due to the increase in the number of visitors," he informed.
Visitor Rosalinda Larm, 32, said the Car Food Sahur event provided a variety of options for single people like herself to enjoy sahur.
"It is quite difficult to get food late at night because most shops would close after midnight," she said.
For 35-year-old Azlan Bahrum, the event does not only offer his favourite food items, but has a unique setup compared to other places.
"It is easy to get my favourite food items here, like nasi minyak, laksa Terengganu and local kuih," he said.
