Mantai to be held in all districts in Negri Sembilan

JELEBU: The annual traditional state government programme 'mantai' will be held on June 3 to enable the public to buy meat at a lower price.

State Agriculture and Agro-based Committee chairman Bakri Sawir said the programme would be held at all districts in the state, including at its annual location in Paroi.

He said people in the state would get fresh meat in their respective areas without having to go all the way to Seremban.

"A total of 40 to 60 cows are provided for each district, based on requirement, and will be sold at RM29 per kilogramme.

"Sale of meat will be the priority, but traders who wish to sell other items at the market are welcome too," he said.

Bakri, who is also Klawang state assemblyman, said the annual programme was aimed at helping the district folks with their Raya preparations.

Mantai is a traditional practice in the state conducted to welcome the fasting month, or the first day of Ramadan and Hari Raya.

Bakri said his constituents will be holding the Aidilfitri prayers at Kuala Klawang mini stadium for the first time.

"We are expecting about 2,000 people to attend the prayers.

"We will prepare six spots in the mini stadium for the public to perform their ablution, but we encourage them to prepare from home and bring their prayer mat for their own convenience.

"We hope to organise this ritual here annually," he added.
