Festive Season Price Control Scheme extended to June 19 for Gawai Dayak, Kaamatan

SIBU: The Festive Season Price Control Scheme (FSPCS) for Gawai Dayak in Sarawak and Kaamatan in Sabah will be extended to 14 days this year, compared with seven days previously.

Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Chong Chieng Jen said the implementation of FSPCS for Dayak Festival and Kaamatan started today and would end on June 7.

Also extended would be the FSPCS in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri which started on May 21 and ends on June 19.

The extension is to enable consumers celebrating the festivities to buy items that they need at reasonable prices.

“Traders are free to sell 14 price-controlled goods for Gawai Dayak and Kaamatan and 18 types of goods for Hari Raya Aidilfitri below the maximum prices stipulated,” he told a media conference after visiting Sibu Central Market today in conjunction with the implementation of the 2019 Hari Gawai FSPCS.

Chong said stern action would be taken against traders who flout the rules under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

Meanwhile, during an Aeon programme to distribute bubur lambuk in Kuching today, he said Ramadan was a suitable time for companies and agencies to give back to society.

He said they were encouraged to carry out their corporate social responsibilities in conjunction with the holy month.

“The programme conducted by Aeon today to distribute porridge to visitors is a way to approach the local community,” he said. - BERNAMA
