SEMENYIH: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has announced the list of items to be placed under the Deepavali price control scheme for this year.

Acting Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said that eight items have been identified and that its enforcement will commence from Nov 9 for seven days.

"These items are imported lamb with bones, which is set at RM28 per kilogramme for the wholesale price and RM32 per kilogramme for the retail price.

"The price for tomatoes is set at RM5 (wholesale) and RM6 (retail) per kilogramme, red chillies at RM15 (wholesale) and RM17 (retail) per kilogrammes, whole coconut at RM1.90 (wholesale) per piece and grated coconut at RM7.60 (retail) per kilogramme."

He also added that the price for Indian shallots (excluding rose shallots) was at RM4 (wholesale) and RM5 (retail) per kilogramme, imported red shallots at RM3 (wholesale) and RM4 (retail) per kilogramme and Australian dhal at RM4 (wholesale) and RM5 (retail) per kilogramme.

"The eight items placed under the scheme will complement the additional items that are controlled in terms of price such as eggs, bottled cooking oil, sugar, face masks and others" he said.

Armizan also said the ministry's enforcement officers throughout the country will run continuous inspections and monitoring at strategic locations.

"We hope that all parties can adhere to the established prices and use the pink label for price controlled goods."

"The pricing is made by taking into account the views of the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, government agencies and industry stakeholders.

"We will ensure that the controlled supply items remains sufficient throughout the implementation of the price control scheme," he said.

He said any trader who commits an offence will be subject to action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and may also face penalties.

Earlier, Armizan had presented Deepavali donations to the Jayaa Sri Welfare Organisation, here.

Also present were the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living deputy minister Fuziah Salleh, the ministry's enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam and Hulu Langat member of parliament Mohd Sany Hamzan.
