Vandalism and accident involving prosecutor unrelated, say police

GEORGE TOWN: Police have maintained that the accident involving a lorry crashing into a prosecutor’s car in Padang Serai, Kedah, yesterday was not related to an earlier vandalism incident involving the prosecutor.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said the lorry driver, who lost control and crashed into the prosecutor’s Perodua Bezza, was trying to avoid a motorcyclist who had come out suddenly at a junction.

“It was a “genuine” accident. I advise the public not to speculate on the matter further,” he told the New Straits Times today.

In the earlier incident which took place a week ago, the prosecutor’s car was splashed with what was identified as “whitewash”.

Meanwhile, the Kulim deputy district police chief Deputy Superintendent Safuan Md Noor said the vandalism on the prosecutor’s car was still being investigated.

“There is no link (to the accident case yesterday),” he said when contacted.

Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said both cases were being investigated separately.

The vandalism act was being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief, while the accident had been classified as careless driving under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.

On May 20, it was reported that a 26-year-old Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) attached with the magistrate’s court in Baling was splashed with what appeared to be shoe whitewash on the bonnet of her Perodua at her home in Taman Mutiara, Kulim.

She had just been transferred from the magistrate’s court in Kulim, according to news report.

Yesterday, the same DPP was hit by a lorry at Jalan Sidam Kiri on her way from Sungai Petani to Padang Serai at 12.25pm. She escaped without injuries.

The 37-year-old lorry driver did not have a licence, police said.
