SEREMBAN: If you see motorists using the emergency lane during this Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday period, snap a photo and send it to the Road Transport Department (RTD).
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said it should be accompanied by details such as the vehicle registration plate and location of the incident so that an investigation can be carried out.
“While we greatly welcome the public’s cooperation in channeling information, they have to remember that the law can only be enforced by the RTD and the police,” he said after launching the Op Bersepadu and national-level 2019 Hari Raya Aidilifitri Road Safety Campaign at Aeon Mall Nilai, here, on Sunday.
“The public cannot take the law into their own hands.”
Loke said the ministry had issued warnings to heavy vehicle users against using the highways during the Aidilfitri period.
He said the warning was effective for June 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9.
He said the ministry would boost its road safety awareness campaigns, which were geared towards reducing traffic accidents.
He said statistics from the 2019 Chinese New Year Road Safety Campaign showed that there were 20,829 accidents, which was a reduction from the previous year’s total of 21,041.
He said there was also a drop in traffic-related deaths, to 197 from 208 in 2018.
