KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has refuted a report by a news portal that only four Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) cameras in the country are functioning, as the others are in disrepair.
In a statement today, the RTD said all 41 AWAS cameras are in good condition and in operation.
“The operation of several AWAS cameras was (only) temporarily suspended (recently) as they were (damaged in) accidents, (or were being rewired),” it said.
The RTD also denied allegations that it has no expertise to operate the AWAS camera system.
The news portal reported that only four AWAS cameras are still in operation out of a total of 45 units set up nationwide. -- Bernama
