KUALA LUMPUR: Muhammad Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, who made headlines after admitting that he was one of the two men in the viral sex videos, was released on police bail at 5.45pm today.
Inspector-General of Police secretariat corporate communications head Datuk Asmawati Ahmad said the Santubong PKR Youth chief was released on bail with one surety at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters here.
Haziq, 27, was accompanied by a group of people. believed to be his lawyers, when he was seen leaving the police headquarters in a Proton Persona car.
Clad in a blue t-shirt, Haziq appeared calm when he went inside the car, which later left the compound.
Haziq’s lawyer, Ramesh Sivakumar, said his client wished not to be disturbed and that he was not ready to field questions from the media.
“Haziq provided good cooperation throughout the police's investigation into the case. He was cheerful and appeared not to face any problem.
“There is no restriction for him to visit other countries,” he told reporters.
Earlier this morning, Haziq was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital here to undergo a medical examination as required by police’s investigation into his claim that he was one of two men appearing in the videos.
In Kangar, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador earlier said Haziq would be released on police bail today.
He also said Haziq would be summoned by the police at any time if the police needed to record more statements from him.
Apart from admitting that he was one of the two men in the clip, Haziq had also accused Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali as the other person seen engaging in sex acts.
Azmin has denied the allegations and described the clip as the work of people with sinister conspiracy to tarnish his image.
