Pas Youth demands apology on slanders linking party with 1MDB

KUANTAN: Pas Youth today demanded an open apology from those who have linked the party as a beneficiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Its newly-minted chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin said the party had been vindicated, going by the absence of the party's name in the list of the five political parties by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its civil forfeiture lawsuit.

“It (1MDB) was frequently used to demonise us, so thank God no one (from Pas) was involved in it,” Khairil told a press conference at the 65th PAS Muktamar (congress) here today.

He was commenting on the lawsuit filed by the MACC against 41 individuals and organisations, as part of the agency's efforts to recover some RM270 million connected to 1MDB.

Khairul said those who “demonised” PAS included members of the current federal government who had made such claims in the run-up to the 14th general election last year.

MACC chief Latheefa Koya yesterday released a list of 41 recipients it had named in its civil forfeiture lawsuit filed at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur, under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Seven individuals were named in the list, as were three non-governmental organisations, five foundations, 12 companies and five political parties including Umno, MIC and MCA.

The RM270 million funds were reported to have come from former Umno president and prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal bank account.
