Caned student's mom retracts police report

PASIR GUDANG: The mother of a female student at a school in Johor Bahru has retracted the police report she lodged a day after making the report.

The report was made after the teacher had allegedly caned her daughter, leaving red marks on her body.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader said eventhough the report has since been retracted, police would proceed with their investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for deliberately causing injury.

Commenting on the mother's action in retracting the report, Mohd Khalil, at a press conference, here, said, "Perhaps there was a discussion (between the school and the family). In that aspect, it (retracting the report) was a personal matter, but police will continue with our investigation."

The caning incident made headlines after a video went viral on social media.

The video shows a woman, believed to be the student’s mother, questioning the actions of a male teacher in caning her daughter.

Photos of the student’s injuries have also gone viral.

In the clip, the teacher is seen offering his side of the story, but the woman is in no mood to listen as she points to red cane marks on her daughter’s body.

It was said that the teacher had caned the student because she made a remark against him.

The video has received mixed reactions from netizens, with some questioning the teacher’s action for causing injuries to his student.

Others, meanwhile, said the teaching profession is becoming more challenging, and that students must always respect teachers.
