KUALA LUMPUR: Police are on the hunt for a man who allegedly molested a 9-year-old girl at a convenience store in Bandar Country Homes, near Gombak, two days ago (July 12).
Gombak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Samsor Maarof said in the 6.19pm incident, the suspect, who has yet to be identified, hugged the child from behind before running away.
"A complainant (the girl's father) lodged a police report after finding out about the incident from his wife at 8pm the same day.
"Efforts to track down and arrest the suspect are underway," he said in a statement today, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
CCTV footage of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, caused an uproar among netizens, who called on the authorities to nab and charge the suspect with sexual assault as soon as possible.
