Former officer files defamation suit against Sungai Siput MP

KUALA LUMPUR: The former officer for Sungai Siput member of parliament Indrani Ramasamy, has filed a defamation suit against her ex-boss Kesavan Subramaniam.

Indrani, who was appointed as the Sungai Siput parliamentary research officer, had previously lodged a police report claiming Kesavan had been sexually harassing her since December last year.

The defamation suit which was filed on July 16 at the Kuala Lumpur High Court was done following Kesavan’s public statement on May 18.

In the statement, Kesavan claimed Indrani was the one who pursued him, wanted to wreck his marriage and that her accusation had caused him mental trauma.

Indrani who is the former PKR Sungai Siput treasurer said, the suit was filed through her lawyers, Suflan TH Liew and Partners.

“As I felt I had been defamed, I filed the action asking for the court to decide on the matter in which I have claimed damages, a retraction and an injunction against YB Kesavan.

“I would like to stress that the statements made and published by him were defamatory against me and could have meant that I am a person who has no morals or integrity, as well as a person who has no professional ethics in the workplace,” Indrani said when met at the Balai Berita NSTP, here, today.

Kesavan, who is also the PKR Sungai Siput branch chief had lodged a police report against Indrani on May 18. He claimed she had been flooding him with phone calls.

Among the accusations made by Indrani in her first report was that Kesavan had shown her some content of the Kamasutra book and pornographic pictures.
