Charity work a noble endeavour, says DPM

BANGI: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail says doing charity work not only fulfills religious obligations, but also helps to maintain good health and foster good relations with fellow human beings.

“It can reinforce community institutions and further elevate the quality of life,” she said when closing the “Karnival Perdana Pasukan Briged Bakti Malaysia” event here today.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also Women, Family and Community Development Minister, said young people and professionals should engage in volunteer and charity work.

She said motivational campaigns to inculcate public interest in volunteerism and delivery of positive messages in performing charity work should be enhanced.

She said volunteerism had gained a place in the hearts of Malaysians.

She said that all segments of society seemed to be interested in becoming volunteers, regardless of political affiliation, religion, race, status and ethnicity.

“If the spirit to serve voluntarily is successfully nurtured and emphasised within each of us, it will lighten various burdens borne by society today,” she said. – Bernama
