'Resolve Jammu, Kashmir issue through dialogue'

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia firmly believes the Jammu and Kashmir issue is best resolved through dialogue and consultation.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement today that Malaysia urges all stakeholders to comply with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution.

This is particularly crucial in maintaining peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Malaysia has been following closely the latest developments in Jammu and Kashmir, especially the increasing tension in the region,” the statement said.

“As a close partner of India and Pakistan, Malaysia has high hopes that the two neighbouring countries will avoid actions that could jeopardise peace, stability and prosperity in the region.”

The statement said the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, had briefed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a phone call on Monday on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan has, among other things, stressed on the need to respect UNSC resolutions in relation to Jammu and Kashmir.”
