Couple in deadly Bangi road rage incident remanded for murder

SHAH ALAM: Police remanded a husband and wife for alleged murder after a 29-year-old man – with whom they engaged in a dispute after a fender bender in Bangi – died on Saturday.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said that the suspects, aged 40 and 36, were remanded for seven days from today (Aug 11) until Aug 17.

The remand order was granted at the Kajang court complex this morning.

“This case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said in a statement, today.

He revealed that a preliminary investigation showed that the fight between the couple and the victim began at about noon.

The incident took place near the Sungai Besi toll plaza (southbound), where both the victim and suspects’ vehicles had collided.

“There was a minor collision between the victim’s car and the suspects’ at the toll plaza. The victim had rammed into the rear of the suspects’ car. Thereafter, a high-speed chase ensued, until they stopped at an exit after the Bandar Baru Bangi toll plaza.

“A fight broke out between the victim and the suspects, which prompted other motorists to (intervene). After the situation cooled down, they returned to their cars.

“However, the victim, who was still unhappy, alighted from his car, armed with a baseball bat, which he began swinging at the front portion of the suspects’ car.

“The suspects, in a panic, accelerated their vehicle towards the victim and pinned him between the car and the road divider.

“The victim was rushed to the Nilai Medical Centre. He died while receiving treatment,” Fazil added.

He urged members of the public against making wild speculations on the incident, which has been making its rounds on social media.

“(This was a case of road rage). It had nothing to do with (racism), as viralled,” he added.
