No one has been reported missing from the resort before

SEREMBAN: No missing cases have been reported in the past 10 years at the resort from which Irish teenager Nora Anne Quoirin has been missing since last Sunday.

State police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said there have only been cases where people got lost while hiking Gunung Berembun.

“Nora Anne’s case is the first that has ever happened here and we would like to advise the public not to disseminate the wrong information as the search and rescue operations are still active,” he told reporters.

He said that there might be a possibility to expand the SAR operations at Gunung Berembun tomorrow.

Mohamad also refuted claims that all outdoor activities near the resort had been stopped.

He said no instructions had been given and he even encouraged them as it would indirectly help in the SAR operations for Nora Anne.

Volunteers were also encouraged to join the SAR operations which would be continued till further notice.

Mohamad said police had checked and investigated more than 30 houses around the vicinity of the resort.

In addition to that, police had set up a special hotline for the public to provide any information related to the case.

The hotline (0111-2285058) would be operated at the Pantai police station.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon the SAR operations team received a royal surprise when Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz visited them to present Hari Raya Aidiladha goodies.

More than 350 packages were distributed to the SAR operations personnel.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Mazlan Mansor also paid a visit to Nora Anne’s family.

Mazlan expressed his sympathy and gave words of encouragement to Nora Anne’s father, Sebastien Marie Philipe, who met him at the resort.

The family of five had arrived in Malaysia for a two-week holiday and checked in at the resort on Saturday. The following morning, the 15-year-old special needs teen was discovered missing.

The family is insisting that she was abducted but police have yet to discover any evidence of this and have classified it as a missing persons case, though investigators have not completely ruled out abduction and are still investigating all angles.
