Thai woman dies after jumping from hotel window to escape police raid

TAIPING: A Thai woman died, while another woman broke her left arm after they jumped from the first floor of a hotel in Kamunting here to avoid the police.

The 9pm incident occurred during a raid conducted by the state’s Police Contingent Headquarters (Gambling, Vice and Secret Societies Division).

The 22-year-old woman died while receiving treatment at Taiping Hospital while the other one, aged 26, broke her left arm.

Perak Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Anuar Othman said earlier, the operation dubbed ‘Ops Noda’ managed to arrest two women, also from Thailand, believed to be involved in prostitution at several rooms in the hotel.

“Police also seized six condoms and RM530 in cash. Both women will be investigated under Section 39B and 55B of the Immigration Act, and Section 372B of the Penal Code for soliciting or importuning for the purpose of prostitution or any immoral purpose,” he said when contacted today.

He added that further checks at the hotel found the two women had checked in into two other rooms at the first floor of the hotel.

“When the police knocked on the door, they heard noises and they believed the occupants tried to escape.

“The team then rushed to the ground floor before they found a bloodied woman lying faced up while another complained about her injury.

“Both of them were sent to the Taiping Hospital by ambulance,” he said.

Anuar said one of the women suffered head injury and she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
