BANGI: The remand order against a male suspect who was detained following a road accident and scuffle which led to the death of Syed Muhammad Danial Syed Syakir has been extended.

The incident occurred at KM293.5 of the North South Expressway (NSE) near the Southville City exit on Aug 10.

Bandar Baru Bangi magistrate’s court assistant registrar, Nurul Farhana Abdul Hamid, issued the remand extension for the 40-year-old man for another five days until Aug 21.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the application was made at 10am today after the suspect's initial remand order of seven days ended today.

The remand against the suspect's wife has not been extended and she was released on police bail.

The man was seen arriving at the court in purple lock-up attire while being handcuffed and escorted by policemen.

His wife arrived at the court 38 minutes later in a red T-shirt and dark blue skirt.

She was also handcuffed while being escorted by two police personnel.

Syed Muhammad Danial, 29, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Nilai Medical Centre.

Initial investigation found that the victim and the suspect, had been involved in a minor accident on the highway. This led to them chasing each other and eventually stopped along the highway where an argument then broke out between the two.

Police said the victim produced a baseball bat from his car and began smashing the front portion of the suspect's car. The suspect who had re-entered his vehicle was said to have panicked and hit the accelerator, causing the victim to be pinned to the road divider.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
