'Get approvals first before organising concerts'

PUTRAJAYA: The Central Agency For Applications for Filming and Performances by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) said that concert organisers should not proceed with sales of tickets and promotions for any event prior to obtaining approval from the relevant authorities.

The agency was responding to an earlier statement by Raaghav Productions, the organisers of SPB’s Live In Concert Illaya Nila at the Plenary Hall, KLCC on a change of timing.

The concert which will now start at 3pm was originally scheduled for 7pm on Aug 31.

Puspal clarified that it never issued a support letter to the organisers for the concert to take place from 7pm to 11pm.

“Based on information provided by the organisers to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) via a letter dated Aug 13, it was found that ticket sales for the concert had commenced in March, before the application was submitted,” it said.

Puspal explained that the application was rejected based on Jakim’s advice and the organiser should change the date of the concert to a more appropriate date.

“This is because 1 Muharram begins from sunset on Aug 31, 2019 until sunset on Sept 1, 2019,” said the statement.

Puspal said the organisers had subsequently lodged an appeal and explained that they had begun the sale of the tickets and had spent a hefty sum for the concert before approval was obtained.

“To help the organisers, given the predicament they put themselves in by selling the tickets before getting approval, Puspal agreed to allow them to hold the concert on Aug 31 but it was restricted from 3 - 7pm. The organisers have agreed to this.

“It is therefore inappropriate to create a perception that the concert was pushed from 7pm to 3pm on the instruction of Puspal,” added the statement.

Puspal emphasised that the organisers should not start ticket sales and promotions for any event before the approval was obtained.

“It should be noted that organisers who do not comply with the rules and proceed without the official approval of the Puspal Committee do so at their own risk,” the statement said. -- BERNAMA
