ALOR SETAR: It was a grand affair at Wisma Darul Aman as the state celebrated Maal Hijrah today.
Sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah urged Muslims to embrace the concepts of Maqasid Syariah (purposes or objectives of Syariah) and Rahmatan Lil ‘Alamin (blessings for the world and its contents) that is being promoted by the government.
“These approaches must be embraced by all sides because it is for the betterment of the country, especially as it is key to enhance the image of Islam as a religion that will remain relevant through out the ages,” said Sultan Sallehuddin.
He pointed out that the concept of Negara Rahmah encompasses a reform agenda of the mind, the purification of life philosophy and an approach to guide the Muslim ummah.
The ruler reiterated his support for the government’s approach as it would bring benefits to the society at all levels.
“In the end, the goal is to bring peace, improve the quality of living and bring harmony to all life,” he said.
The theme of this year’s Maal Hijrah is Negara Rahmah, Ummah Sejahtera.
Also present were Sultan Sallehuddin’s consort Sultanah Maliha Tengku Ariff and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
The ruler also reminded the people to not be so selfish that they disregarded the peace and harmony of the community.
“We only have one country. This is where we live, work and go about our daily lives in peace. Don’t be selfish to the point that we allow the country to be destroyed by those who are irresponsible,” he said.
