Don't pressure UPSR candidates, says Maszlee

PUTRAJAYA : Parents and teachers are advised not to pressure their children and students who are sitting for the 2019 Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination which starts today.

Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said during his visit on the first day of the examination here earlier, that he witnessed parents being stressed.

"I saw most parents being anxious and stressed. I hope parents and teachers don't push the children too much as this will indirectly affect their children.

"The important thing is to make sure they have read up sufficiently, and give it their all.

"Prayers are also an important aspect. If parents and teachers are stressed, it will affect the children's growth and mind development," he said at Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 8(1), here.

A total of 154 candidates have registered for the examination at the school.

Meanwhile, Maszlee also advised parents to make sure their children have had their breakfast before being sent to school.

"Make sure they eat their breakfast in the morning because an 'empty stomach' could affect their ability to answer questions."

He also said that the examination is running smoothly without any untoward incidents at Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 8(1).

"So it is running smoothly.. very organised here. This is not their first time conducting the examination. I'm confident that everything will go on well," he added.

In a statement previously, the Education Ministry said a total of 445,641 students have registered as candidates for UPSR at 8,076 examination centers nationwide.
