Kedah Sultan expresses condolences to Major Mohd Zahir's family

ALOR STAR: The Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah today expressed his condolences to the family of Major Mohd Zahir Armaya, who was killed during a shooting demonstration at the Lok Kawi Camp, Sabah on Wednesday.

In a statement released today, the sultan, who is also as Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Malay Regiment, said he was saddened by the soldier's passing.

His Highness also offered prayers so that Allah would forgive the major's sins and that his soul be placed among the righteous in the heareafter.

Mohd Zahir, 36, was the son of popular comedian AR Badul. He was an officer from the 11th Special Forces Regiment group of Sungai Udang Army Camp in Melaka.

In the 8.30am incident, he was believed to have been accidentally shot while performing a gimmick at the launch of the Fifth Division of the Malaysian Infantry and the 13th Malaysian Infantry Brigade.

He was pronounced dead at 9.20am at Hospital Queen Elizabeth in Kota Kinabalu after being admitted to the Emergency Unit.
