'Very unhealthy' air continues to choke Sarawak

KUCHING: The haze in Sarikei and three other locations in Sarawak worsened today, with their Air Pollutant Index (API) readings reaching ‘very unhealthy’ levels as of 8am.

According to Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee head Major Ismail Mahedin from the Civil Defence Force, Sarikei’s API this morning is 206, compared to 193 at 8pm yesterday.

Meanwhile, Kuching entered its third day of having ‘very unhealthy’ air, with its API registered at 242 this morning.

The API readings in Sri Aman and Samarahan were recorded at 244 and 201, respectively.

The hard-hit SK Baram area, however, saw its air quality improve to ‘moderate’ this morning, with an API reading of 96, compared to 122 yesterday.

Elsewhere, Miri’s API was recorded at 102; ILP Miri (145), Sibu (173), and Mukah (119) at 8am today. – BERNAMA
