Another Malaysian held at Chennai airport with gold worth RM133K

NEW DELHI: A Malaysian female passenger was arrested at Chennai’s international airport for trying to smuggle gold worth RM133,000.

The woman, aged 40, arrived from Malaysia on Monday and was carrying a 582g of pure gold valued around 2.3 million Indian rupees (RM133,700), according to India’s Air Intelligence Unit (AIU).

The passenger was formally arrested this morning under India’s customs laws.

She has been released on bail and police are conducting an investigation, K. Saravanan, consul-general of Malaysia in Chennai, told Bernama.

This is the third case of a Malaysian being nabbed for attempting to smuggle items at Chennai in recent weeks.
