Juwily's lip mask makes its mark in UK

LONDON: A MALAYSIAN residing in the United Kingdom has made his home country proud as his beauty product has been shortlisted for the UK’s Pure Beauty Awards 2019.

Jameson Juwily, who hails from Tuaran, Sabah, is the founder of MYJ Beauty, whose lip mask has been shortlisted for Best New Lip Product, chosen out of 700 entries and more than 39 categories.

The annual Pure Beauty Awards acknowledges the latest ground-breaking and innovative brands and products launched in the UK over the past year.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at Northumberland Avenue, London on Oct 24.

Juwily, 39, who works as a court officer in London, said he submitted his entry for the awards two months ago.

The lip mask, he said, was developed to complement his existing range of lipstick and lip gloss, and was launched in London in September last year. His range of lip products are sold online and are available on the shelves of selected Parkson and Play Up Advance stores in Malaysia.

“I submitted my entry for the Pure Beauty Awards two months ago because I was confident that it was unique. It is organic, fragrant-free and made from hibiscus, which is good for elasticity,” he said.

Juwily, who first came to London in 2003, graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2011 and later created MYJ Beauty.

He is passionate about his range of lip products.

“I like that MYJ Beauty London focuses on just lips, with a whole range of lip care products ranging from lip scrubs, lip masks to lip balms.

“Many people are concerned about the chemical products they apply to their lips, and whether the lips are chapped, as well as how to restore natural lip colour. The idea is to help people regain their confidence after using bad lipstick and having smokers’ lips.”

Juwily said he sought plenty of feedback before embarking on creating his products. He did extensive research and sought input from customers as well as family and friends.

“It was challenging to hear people’s input but it was great feedback. In the end, it was a big decision but I decided that I did not want the products to have essential oils, unnecessary chemicals, parabens (preservatives) or fillers and additives.

“Most importantly, the products are natural, organic and made in the UK.”
