Better air quality recorded in Negri Sembilan; not so in Perak

SEREMBAN: Air quality in Seremban and Port Dickson has improved with the Air Pollution Index (API) moderate readings of 98 and 93 respectively, as of noon today.

Nilai however remains at an unhealthy level with an API reading of 123.

The situation was worse yesterday, with Seremban recording an unhealthy API reading of 132, Port Dickson (102) and Nilai (159), as of 7pm.

The Department of Environment (DoE) on Monday had issued a statement that forest fires in Sumatera and Kalimantan, Indonesia, had caused the haze across the border and contributed to the worsening air quality in many areas, along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and western Sarawak.

Subsequently, the Negri Sembilan DoE activated the Haze Action Plan by conducting 24-hour monitoring and patrolling in each district, especially in agricultural areas.

The move is to ensure that no open burning activity is conducted which can worsen the haze situation.

However, in PERAK, Tasek and Manjung recorded unhealthy air quality.

In Tasek, the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading stood at 102 at 4am today, and hovered between 103 (7am), 104 (10am), 105 (12pm) and 104 (2pm).

The air quality in Seri Manjung meanwhile was worse. As of 7am today, the API reading stood at 137, 142 (10am), 146 (12pm) and 147 (2pm).

The API reading is categorised as good (0-50), moderate (51-100), unhealthy (101-200), very unhealthy (201-300) and hazardous (above 300).
