Haze: King urges public to take care of health

KUALA LUMPUR: The King has expressed his concern over the worsening haze situation in the country and urged the public to take care of their health.

In a statement issued by the Comptroller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, the Yang diPertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has advised the public to take measures against potential health risks due to haze.

He decreed to the public, especially those diagnosed with chronic diseases, to avoid participating in outdoor activities and to wear a face mask when going outside.

“Besides taking care of their health, the public must also stay hydrated by drinking at least eight glasses of water a day.

“It is also hoped that any activities that could contribute to air pollution such as open burning should be avoided.

“No one should be involved in open burning activities or allowing their land or premises to be trespassed that could lead to irresponsible individuals carrying out open burning,” the King said.

He also urged the public to follow the latest haze updates from official websites of government agencies and the mainstream media to avoid disseminating fake news.

As of 5pm, Johan Setia in Klang recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 194, followed by Sri Aman in Sarawak (150), Seri Manjung, Perak (141).

Currently, Selangor is the state with highest number of areas affected by the haze with unhealthy readings, with Kuala Selangor (133), Petaling Jaya (119), Shah Alam (129), Klang (123) and Banting (110) according to the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index of Malaysia official website.
