PR1MA due diligence report ready, to be presented to Cabinet soon

PUTRAJAYA: The due diligence report for the 1Malaysia People's Housing Scheme (PR1MA) is complete and will be presented to Cabinet soon, said Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

She said the due diligence report was divided into two parts – management and financial.

"I will present the report on the management or organisational report, which is in line with what we are doing now.

“I have yet to receive the financial report, which would be ready soon. Once I receive it, I will present it to the Cabinet first before the details are made public.

“As of now, there's no new housing project under PR1MA. All (existing housing schemes under PR1MA) are being streamlined to be in line with the affordable housing policy," she told reporters after attending the ministry's Innovation Day here today.

She, however, refused to divulge details.

During the event, Zuraida also launched MyWC (Water Closet), an app to assist the public to locate the nearest public toilets.

Meanwhile, PR1MA in a statement said there were approximately 94,000 units of PR1MA homes in various stages nationwide.

"Of the total units, 12,999 units have been completed. PR1MA’s participation in the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) which runs until the end of the year has garnered an overwhelming response from homebuyers with sales bookings of 14,075 homes as at June 2019," read the statement.

"The purpose of HOC 2019 was to stimulate the market, increase home ownership and address the current property overhang.

"The limited special offers not only benefit aspiring home buyers, but also safeguard the community, ensuring vacant units are taken up, and boosting occupancy which increases the value of the development in the long-term.

"We hope the previous homebuyers will understand and remain supportive of our efforts to ensure shared prosperity and sustainable development of the nation," it said on owners who had bought the house prior to the HOC campaign which offered a 30 per cent discount on the units.

It said PR1MA’s mandate to provide quality affordable homes, with a focus on holistic development, among others, maintained status quo.

It said there were initiatives in the pipeline to deliver on the national housing agenda, in line with the government’s aspirations to uplift the people’s quality of life.”

The government announced its commitment to provide one million affordable homes for the rakyat within the next 10 years, as stipulated under its National Housing Policy 2018 – 2025 launched earlier this year, which among others capped the price of affordable housing at RM300,000.

"PR1MA looks forward to work with the ministry to achieve this target," read the statement.

It was reported that the government has given PR1MA two years to settle issues it was facing, including a liability of RM23 billion.

PR1MA has since managed to reduce its liabilities to RM12 billion.

Zuraida had previously assured that PR1MA would not be dissolved and would ensure all projects related to the housing agency would be completed and sold to eligible buyers.
