Haze crisis: Cloud seeding may be done in Sarawak earliest on Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR: Cloud seeding operations in Sarawak can only be carried out on or after Thursday due to atmospheric, weather and cloud conditions.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) in a statement said the operation would be jointly coordinated with the Malaysian Meteorological Department and the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

"NADMA is closely monitoring the haze situation in Sarawak and the states in the Peninsula. As at 8am, air pollution in Sri Aman has breached the red zone on the Air Pollutant Index (API) with readings shooting up to 359.

A total of 531 schools involving 363,991 students in haze-affected states were closed today, namely Selangor (145 schools with 187,928 students); Sarawak (298 schools with 128,291 students); Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan (63 schools with 22,877 students) and Putrajaya (25 schools with 24,895 students).

Those in areas affected by the haze are advised to stay indoors and limit outdoor activities.
