Immigration officer, woman detained near KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: An Immigration Department officer and a woman were detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) yesterday over suspicion of being involved in illegally facilitating the entry and exit of foreigners.

Sources said KLIA police patrolmen suspected something amiss when they spotted a Hyundai Sonata near the airport and decided to conduct further check.

"The car was driven by a 45-year-old woman. Upon checking, the team found a box under the seat.

"It contained some cash, passports believed to be China's and Indonesia's, and a red identity card." said the sources.

Also seized was a bag containing some cash and several mobile phones.

It is learnt that during the checks, a 40-year-old man, who identified himself as an Immigration officer, appeared and claimed that the car was his.

Suspecting the two could be involved in unethical activities, the policemen hauled both of them to the police station for further checks.

KLIA police chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkifli Adamshah when contacted confirmed the arrests.

"The two were picked up at 1.30pm by our patrol unit. We are still probing the matter." he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
