Deputy Minister in PM's Dept Md Farid dies aged 42

JOHOR BARU: Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, died at the Pontian Hospital, this morning.

The 42-year-old died at 6am after being admitted to the hospital following a suspected heart attack.

Md Farid’s death was confirmed by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal.

The Tanjung Piai Member of Parliament’s remains are expected to be transported to his mother’s home in Serkat, Pontian for burial before the Zohor prayer, today.

Md Farid, who was in charge of the National Unity and Social Welfare portfolio in the Prime Minister’s Department was also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Tangjung Piai vice-president.

He won the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat in the 2018 general election by defeating incumbent Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng, from MCA, by a 21,255 vote majority.
