KUALA LUMPUR: Fifty seven schools in the Kuala Langat and Klang district in Selangor will be closed on Monday (Sept 23) as the Air Pollutant Index (API) in Johan Setia in Klang breached the very unhealthy stage this afternoon.
The Selangor education department in a statement today said both the primary and secondary schools would be closed as the API registered a reading of 207 as of 3pm.
“The closure will involve 30 schools in Kuala Langat involving 24, 251 students and 27 schools in Klang with 43,774 students amounting to a total of 68,025 students who will not be attending classes tomorrow.
“Other schools not listed are expected to continue school activities tomorrow (Monday).
“For schools at the API reading of more than 100, it is advised to stop all outdoors activities and postpone any sporting activities and outdoor events,” the statement said.
For API reading more than 200 or unhealthy, schools had been told to act based on the Education Ministry circular by closing schools immediately and report the closure to the district education office.
Schools involved in the closure are advised to refer to the haze related school closure standard operating procedure which was issued on Sept 18.
An API reading of between 0 and 50 is good while 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and 301 and above is deemed hazardous.
