Former squash queen to inspire Malaysian athletes

GEORGE TOWN: Datuk Nicol Ann David, eight times world squash champion, is set to inspire other Malaysian athletes with motivational talks.

"I would like to start giving more talks. Hopefully I will also be with the local athletes and work with the Youth and Sports Ministry to see where our athletes can go.

"I want to focus on building my foundation as well," she said when met at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Commemorative Convocation Ceremony today.

The former squash queen was awarded with Honorary Doctorate in Sports Science.

Today’s ceremony was held in conjunction with USM’s 50th anniversary celebration. It was declared open by the chancellor of USM, the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

Also present was Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik and USM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Asma Ismail.

Nicole expressed delight as she was conferred with the title for her contributions in the sports arena for the nation.

"I am speechless. It’s not everyday you receive a doctorate.

"This honorary doctorate means a lot to me. It is a great feeling and my parents are here with me, making it a truly special moment for me," she said.
