Haze eases but air quality in Ipoh, Klang, Putrajaya remains 'unhealthy'

KUALA LUMPUR: The air quality here has improved further with most areas recording ‘moderate’ Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as at 3pm.

Eight stations registered ‘unhealthy’ API readings, namely, Klang (162), Lumut (130), Kampung Serinilai (123), Mentakab (122), Ipoh (117), Putrajaya (117), Kampung Baru Pandamaran (111) and North Port Industrial Estate (111).

Seremban recorded ‘moderate’ API readings at 96, followed by George Town (95), Kuala Lumpur (94), Alor Setar (90), Johor Baru (90), Melaka (90), Kuala Terengganu (88), Kuantan (87), Kuching (72), Kota Kinabalu (62) and Labuan (58).

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) in a statement earlier said the improvement was due to the monsoon transition phase which started today and would continue until early November.

It was reported that Nadma was in discussions with Wisma Putra and the Royal Malaysian Air Force, along with the relevant agencies to mobilise efforts to bring back the 160 Malaysian students in Pekanbaru and Jambi, which were worst hit by haze.

A total 120 others will be relocated to the Malaysia Hall in Jakarta.

It was reported that the Indonesian province of Riau in Sumatra had declared a state of emergency as the API breached the extremely hazardous level of 500.
