Missing chemical tanker crew member found dead in Penang Straits

GEORGE TOWN: The body of a chemical tanker crew member, who fell overboard into Penang Straits waters two days ago, was found floating northeast of Padang Kota, today.

Indonesian national Agus Salam Siregar, 23, was found still in his white overalls, floating some 2km from where he fell overboard on Thursday.

State Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Maritime Captain Hamizan Harun said Agus’ body was spotted by fishermen at 1.40pm.

He was reported to have fallen overboard off Gat Lebuh Macallum at 11.40am on Thursday.

The Malaysian-flagged chemical tanker was in the midst of berthing at a Gat Lebuh Macallum jetty when the incident took place.

Hamizan said the body was sent to the Penang Hospital for a post-mortem.
