Three religious school employees killed in Mersing car-4WD crash

MERSING: Three people were killed in a collision between a car and a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle at Km23 of Jalan Nitar-Mersing here, today.

The deceased, who were passengers of the car, were staff members of a private religious school here, Bernama reported.

They have been identified as Sodiq Abu Bakar, 40; Shamjuddin Romani, 59; and Mohd Khairy Abd Jaafar, 37. Sodiq and Shamjuddin died at the scene, while Mohd Khairy died while being rushed to the Mersing Hospital.

The trio had been en route from Mersing to Kluang when the accident occurred at 1.40pm. It is learnt that the 4WD vehicle, travelling in the opposite lane, suddenly entered the path of the car, leading to the head-on collision.

The driver and passenger of the 4WD vehicle survived with slight injuries.

Mersing district police chief Superintendent Cyril Edward Nuing said that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
