Boy who crashed into police patrol car dies of severe injuries [NSTTV]

ALOR GAJAH: A teenager, who sustained severe injuries after his motorcycle collided with a police patrol car in Jalan Gangsa Kesang, Durian Tunggal, died early this morning.

Melaka police chief Datuk Zainol Samah said the victim, Mohammad Khairul Basahri,18, was pronounced dead at 12.37am after fighting for his life for more than nine hours at the intensive care unit of the Melaka Hospital.

Police investigations, said Zainol, revealed that the incident occurred at 2.56am yesterday when a team of policemen's four-wheel drive vehicle on their rounds to curb illegal road racing was hit by the boy's machine.

He said his men from the Durian Tunggal police station had gone to the scene after receiving complaints from the public on noise nuisance and illegal road racing.

"A personnel had put on the vehicle's beacon lights and sounded the siren as a warning as it approached the location.

"Realising the police presence, those who had gathered on the roadside fled on their motorcycles.

"However, when the police car tried to turn to the right side of the road, it was hit by the victim's motorcycle," he said in a statement.

He added that thevictim, who suffered severe injuries to his leg and body, was rushed to the hospital. Zainol said one of his men, 37, who was inside the patrol car, escaped unhurt.

Zainol promised a transparent investigation into the case, which is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving which causes death.

A 40-second clip of the incident went viral on social media. It showed a group of motorcyclists fleeing the scene upon the arrival of police before the boy's machine rammed into the police car.
