Shared Prosperity Vision will produced highly skilled workers for IR4.0

ALOR STAR: The strategic focus on human capital in the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (WKB2030) launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Saturday demonstrates the government's commitment to produce more skilled young workers in the future.

Kedah Education and Human Resources Committee chairperson Dr Salmee Said said the government's move to set at least 60 per cent of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia school leavers pursuing studies in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) would encourage young people to become proficient in the field.

He said the approach was seen to ensure greater employment opportunities for them upon graduation.

"When the SPM school leavers enter the TVET field, they will be able to meet industry needs for skilled workers.

"However, if they do not have the opportunity to work in the industry, they can be their own boss with the skills they have, and this can reduce unemployment," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Among the essence of the third strategic thrust is that programmes offered at the universities and training institutes will be tailored to the needs and requirements of the industry.

Dr Salmee said the government's focus was also in line with its efforts to meet the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) that requires highly skilled human capital.

In this regard, she expects the government to provide adequate teaching and learning equipment at universities and training institutes in line with IR 4.0 requirements so that students will not miss the industrial revolution. -- Bernama
