GEORGE TOWN: The Southwest district Civil Defence Force (APM) today received two bicycle ambulances from Mah Sing Foundation.
The district APM is the second to be equipped with bicycle ambulances after Putrajaya.
The addition of the two new ambulance bicycles worth RM9,500 brings the total ambulance bicycles in APM to four.
Putrajaya Disaster Management deputy director Mohd Rosman Abdullah said the ambulance bicycle, which is equipped with an oxygen tank, resuscitation kit and other medical emergency kits, would be helpful in providing aid at areas that are inaccessible by other vehicles.
“For example, when there are events such as Fun Run, Fun Ride or other marathons, we cannot use our ambulance to reach the victim on time. That is when this bicycle would come in handy as a first respondent,” he said when met at Mah Sing Group Bhd’s Northern Region office here today.
Rosman said APM hoped to equip more districts with such bicycles.
“We hope more private companies can generously provide the ambulance bicycles as part of their corporate social responsibility.”
Meanwhile, Mah Sing Group Bhd Northern Region senior general manager Lai Kok Soon said the foundation agreed to provide the two bicycles after it was approached by the Southwest district APM.
“We agreed to provide the bicycles for the wellbeing of the community. It is our way of supporting the needs of the community and it’s for a good cause,” he said after handing over the bicycles to Southwest district APM.
The event was witnessed by State Domestic and International Trade, Consumer Affairs and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain.
Halim said the state government was very happy to witness such a successful corporate public partnership.
“We need more corporate public partnerships in the state as that it the way forward for the nation,” he said.
