Appointments of NAFCC DG and chairman to go through PSC

KUALA LUMPUR: Appointments for the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NAFCC) director-general and chairman will go through the Parliament Select Committee (PSC).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong said the NAFCC, a coordinating agency, was currently a nucleus team under the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC).

“As of now, four major appointments go through the PSC, which include appointments for the Election Commission, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, and the judicial appointment committee.

“Similarly, the process of appointment (for NAFCC) will now go through the PSC,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Liew said the government would consider suggestions for the NAFCC to report directly to Parliament or the King, adding that all reports would be audited.

If passed, the NAFCC bill which is being debated in the Dewan Rakyat would see the centre organising integrated operations related to financial crimes when an investigation involves two or more enforcement agencies.

It also enables NAFCC to establish, administer, maintain and manage a centralised data system which contains relevant information that it receives or gathers.

Agencies that would come under this integrated centre include MACC, the police and Bank Negara Malaysia, among others.
