Baa-ad to the bone: Six detained for stealing goats worth RM50,000

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police detained six men for stealing 52 goats worth about RM50,000 from a goat farm here last Saturday.

Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said that on the day of the incident, the farm’s 35-year-old owner found his goats were missing and his workers had been tied up.

Police were alerted to the incident and following an operation, detained six suspects, aged 23 to 61.

Police also found a pickup truck, with 10 goats still in the cargo bed, as well as RM700 cash from the suspects.

Nik Ros Azhan said the suspects confessed to stealing the goats and selling them on to retailers and suppliers at the Kulim market.

“However, 42 of the goats were already slaughtered and sold for a total of RM20,000 to RM30,000,” he said.

The suspects have been remanded for seven days until Oct 29.

Police believe four other suspects are still at large.
